A FARM in Postbridge is one of three organisations to be in the final for a South West 'Oscar'.

Pizwell Farm is one of three nominees from hundreds of businesses and organisations vying for the regional title of the Countryside Alliance Awards 'local food hero' category. The small family run farm, which holds open days throughout the year for local residents, retails beef and lamb and is part of the Meat Dartmoor group. The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate the characters, skills, traditions and enterprise of the countryside through the people who work so hard to make it tick.

Pizwell Farm, run by the Martin family, naturally rears its animals on grass and are allowed to mature to around 24 to 30 months. It was nominated by a customer. Sue Martin said: 'When we were told that we had been nominated we put together some information on what we do and from that we were shortlisted to the final three in the regional awards. We are delighted to have been nominated and to have got this far, we were not expecting it at all. It's such an honour to have be nominated.'

Sue added that Pizwell Farm takes part in the Walkhampton Community Market on Saturday mornings as the family feel it is important to support local events.

The regional 'Oscar' winner will be announced at the end of November.
