FA Vase
Tavistock 1
Brockenhurst 3.
THE Lambs' Wembley dream came to an end when they lost to Brockenhurst last weekend.
This tie was a very close encounter, both teams played some really good football in difficult windy conditions, the result could have gone either way. The Lambs were forced to make a late change when Glyn Hobbs, the club's leading scorer failed to turn up.
The home team started brightly and created a couple of half chances and a free kick from Lee Blatchford was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Brockenhurst keeper.
The visitors came more into the game as the half progressed and in the dying seconds Blatchford had the misfortune to see a defensive header fly pass his own keeper Andy Meeds.
Tavistock came out in the second half with determination and really attacked the visitors and substitute Mark Conday was twice felled in the penalty area, only for the referee to wave play on. Conday then hit the post from a narrow angle.
The home side equalised in the 62nd minute, Adam Carter fired across the six yard box, and the visitor's defence could only clear the ball to Dave Hallett, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards. The Lambs were really on top at this point , but failed to capitalise. The Lambs defence which had looked so strong went to sleep and the loss of concentration was punished by the visitors.
In the 70th minute Wakefield's corner was headed on by Keeler for Dave Ewen to head home at the far post. Two minutes later the home defence were at fault when Ewen's cross found Mark Clothier in acres of space to put the ball into an empty net.
The large crowd had witnessed a fine cup tie, played between two evenly matched teams.
• This Saturday Tavistock entertain Wadebridge at home, kick-off 3pm.
