IF you've ever wanted to climb on the roof at Cotehele, or wondered what is hidden behind closed doors, a chance is being offered with 'Cotehele Unlocked'.
On Thursday, June 27 from 11am to 4pm, staff and volunteers at the ancestral home will throw open doors to usually private areas of the house and estate, enabling people to peek into offices, closets and greenhouses and climb the spiralling 55 stairs to the roof.
Rachel Hunt, Cotehele's house and collections manager, said: 'It's rewarding for us too because it gives us an opportunity to chat about what we do.
'It is often during these informal conversations that we discover what makes the house and estate special for people, giving us a real sense of purpose. Often, during discussion with visitors, new ideas emerge about how we can protect and enhance Cotehele, without spoiling the all-important spirit of place.'
Visitors to Cotehele Unlocked will want to watch out for the 'Clean Room' where some exquisite textiles, normally in store, will be displayed.
