Crescent 2 South Zeal Utd 1 INJURIES and suspensions have taken their toll on Zeal in recent weeks and they travelled to Crescent on Saturday hoping to get their season back on track. After a good start Zeal took the lead inside 10 minutes when Darren Gilbert latched onto a through ball and finished well from close range. However minutes later the scores were level as Adam Cann dribbled the ball outside his area. His pass was intercepted and the Crescent forward lobbed the ball into an empty net. This fortunate goal lifted the home side and they took the initiative. With just a few minutes left before half time, following a scramble in Zeal?s penalty area from a Crescent corner, an attempted clearance by a Zeal defender was sliced into his own net to put the home side two one up. Zeal pushed for the equaliser in the second half. Lee Gilbert was unlucky to hit the bar with a lob that took a hard bounce and rebounded to safety off the crossbar with the goal keeper well beaten. However this was the closest Zeal came to an equaliser as the home side held on in the dying minutes to take all three points. In Zeal?s previous two games they lost 3-0 at Sidbury and 5-1 to Bow, Darren Gilbert scoring Zeal?s only goal. This week home to Alphington kick off 1-45pm.
