VISITORS to The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington on Friday September 17 could be forgiven for thinking they?ve wandered into a Paris Café, as popular West Country musician Charlie Hearnshaw and his jazz quartet, Projet Brassens, perform their own arrangements of the quintessentially French songs of George Brassens in cabaret.
Brassens, who died in 1981, is as famous in France as the Beatles are in England.
This cabaret performance marks the beginning of a weekend of activities devoted to the great English singer/songwriter Jake Thackray, who died on Christmas Eve 2002.
Thackray was influenced by Brassens? work, and they became close friends. The events of September 17th and 18th at The Plough bring them together once more in a celebration of all that is best in the great tradition of the singer/songwriter.
For further information or book tickets for the two evening performances, call the box office on 01805 624624. Daytime events are open to all for a donation.
