Carlsberg South Western Lsikeard Athletic 4 Callington Town 0 LISKEARD had this game won in the first 40 minutes as they raced into a 3-0 lead. But underdogs Callington battled until the final whistle in an even second half. Dominic Richardson volleyed the home side ahead as early as the second minute and Jamie Morrison Hill added a second on 12 minutes with a 25-yard strike. Lee Harvey?s 40th minute goal made it 3-0 to the home side. But Callington staged a comeback in the second half with some stirling defending and good attacking play, particularly from teenager Pete Floyd who had one of his best games for months. It was his free kick on 55 minutes that was headed in by Darren Woolley and for a while the home supporters had a touch of worry about them. But when Matt Penry fired home Liskeard?s fourth late on, any thought of a recovery for Town went and the home side were left celebrating another three points. Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier Callington Town 2 Bodmin Town 1 AT half-time, visiting league leaders Bodmin Town must have been confident of holding on to their three-point lead over the chasing pack as they led 2-0 and looked in total command. But Callington staged a dramatic comeback that could have yielded all three points. Callington did have chances in the first period but combined to miss them while first Darren Roose and then Chris Hoskin put Bodmin in control. Callington?s fightback started in the second minute of the second half when Seb Krotke set up Chris Truscott who pulled a goal back. Twenty minutes from time man of the match Tony Truscott levelled matters with a superb 30-yard curling shot to send the home supporters away in confident mood. Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 2 cup quarter-final St Breward 1 Callington Town 1 (aet, Callington won 4-3 on penalties) THE quality of the game may not live long into the memory of the players from Callington, but the importance of the result may be pivotal in their season. On this high moor outpost the wind blows down a sloping pitch and it is difficult to play cultured football. So it proved for the technically more superior Callington side in the first half as they had to grapple with gravity and also the opposition in the first half. They equipped themselves well and went into the break a goal to the good when Darren Benfield fired home on the turn on 35 minutes. Their lead only lasted five minutes of the second period as a high ball was not cleard by the Town defence and Craig Keet levelled matters. Despite dominating most of the rest of the 90 minutes, and extra time, Callington could not make the breakthough and it was left to the lottery of penalties which the visiting side won 4-3 to progress.
