I WOULD like to thank the Times for the front-page article about the Inner Change course, which is being held at Dartmoor Prison. The stopping of this course is unbelievable, the reasons for stopping this course are unbelievable. As a member of a church where several of the volunteers have come from, we have living proof it really works. Talk to the men on the course and they will tell you that it is making a real difference in their lives. The main object of the course is to stop prisoners re-offending. as is the case in Texas in the USA. Prisons are in such a state at the moment, surely if you can see something good is happening, then you keep going with it and not stop it. When the prisoner leaves he receives the help of a mentor, who will help him find a job become a member of a church and settle into the community. This brings them hope and a sense of belonging. Also, this programme is not costing the tax payer any money it is completely self-funded. We live in a country which is losing its beliefs and values to other faiths, maybe it?s about time we and the church stood up and made a stand before it?s too late.
