SIX primary schools from the Tavistock area braved wet and windy conditions last week to contest the annual large schools football championship. The trophy went to Bickleigh Down, for the second year running, after a 2-0 victory in a winner takes all final league match versus eventual runners-up, Tavistock Primary. Strong defensive work and outstanding saves from the goalkeeper meant Bickleigh did not concede a single goal throughout the tournament and won all of their five matches. But they were pushed all the way by Tavistock and St Peters, who finished second and third respectively. Organisers said that all the boys and girls from Tavistock Primary, St Peter?s, St Andrew?s, Whitchurch, Bere Alston and Bickleigh Down played well to make the tournament a success.
