Penzance 5 Tavistock A 3 THERE was a strong expectation of a difficult game in Penzance but not quite as torrid as the game turned out to be with the standard of umpiring coming under question by the Devon visitors. Tavistock started the game with great urgency and had the greater possession and were playing a structured game. Penzance were a young side and when they gained possession, moved forward at pace. Three times they cut through the Tavistock defence and scored with each opportunity. The visitors started to get to grips with the opposition and began to play with more passion and scored three times before the break via Heard, who beat three defenders and slotted the ball home, Edwards who hammered a close range shot from a short corner and Honey who maintained his scoring rate after he thundered a strike from a short corner. After the break when tactics and umpires were again discussed, Tavistock started with the bit between the teeth and chased the game. Frustrations mounted when they were not awarded, what they claimed was a blatant penalty, and Penzance countered and scored their fourth following some slack marking. The home side were buoyant and soon scored their fifth and looked comfortable. However, Tavistock did not let their heads drop but kept taking the game to Penzance and had numerous chances to increase their own tally. With the umpire decisions — according to the visitors — becoming more bizarre as the game went on, some Tavistock players began to loose composure and with players sent off the pitch the game began to slip away. At least the long trip allowed for team bonding breaks along the route back!
