A BERE Alston singer has won an Atlantic FM competition which entitles him to record a single to be played on air. Tyrone Piper happened to be in Falmouth when one of the radio station?s heats for the Cornwall?s Got Talent competition was taking place. He sang Nessun Dorma for the judges on their stand in the open, and in the semi-finals held at Truro College, with between 20 and 30 other entrants. He was one of three selected to compete in the final, when listeners voted to decide the winner. He won the competition, a prize of £300, plus surfing equipment and the chance to record a single which will be played on Atlantic FM. He was also invited into the station to talk about himself and to sing. Tyrone said: ?I?d like to thank everyone who voted for me. It was a bit of a shock and exciting when they told me I?d won live on air in a phone call.? A few months earlier the singer had been among only a few chosen to take part in two weeks of masterclasses with the famous opera singer José Cura, which he said had been ?exciting?. Tyrone hopes to audition for opera companies next year and is also trying to get together an album of classical and cross-over music.
