STAFF from a vehicle maintenance centre in Tavistock have officially announced their sponsorship of this weekend's Son-Rise Cup football tournament.

Tavistock Tyres will be backing the event, which takes place on Saturday and is part of Tavistock AFC's Charity Football Fun Day, to help raise funds for the Tavistock Youth Café Plus Group.

Allen Lewis, organiser of the Son-Rise Cup tournament, said: 'We are delighted that Tavistock Tyres is sponsoring the Son-Rise Cup. They are sponsoring the under nines tournament and have donated a day out for 10 at the five-aside football complex, Goals, in Plymouth.

'I would like to thank Tavistock Tyres for their continued support as this will be the fourth year they have supported the Son-Rise Appeal and they have been vital to our success.'

The money raised from the tournament and Fun Day will go towards the Tavistock Youth Café Plus Group to help with its work caring for young people with special needs.

There will be a cost of £2 per player to enter the competition and admission to watch the matches is free. Refreshments will also be served throughout the day.

Tavistock Youth Café Plus is a project run by parents. It is a group where young people with special needs can socialise in a non-threatening environment and their parents and carers can have a coffee and a chat.

Activities and facilities include the use of computers, a pool table and table football, a café, and a football group.

Tim Schmid, the manager of Tavistock tyres, said: 'We are keen on supporting the local community as much as possible and it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to sponsor the Son-Rise Cup. I hope we can raise as much money as possible for the youth café.'

The Son-Rise Cup tournament at 10am at Tavistock College's sports centre.

The final will take place at 1pm with the presentation of the cup and medals taking place on the pitch after the match.
