IAN Moore became the new club champion of Okehampton Golf Club on Saturday with two good rounds of 71 and 68 for a three over par total of 139.

The 68 was even more impressive because Ian started the round with a 7 then covered the remaining 17 holes in 61 (3 under par).

His score was good enough to win by 5 shots from Gareth Holt (70-74 =144) and Adam Cook was third (73-64 = 147) on his last tournament before he heads off to his new job in Cornwall.

Ian's father, Mike Moore, who has won the club championship on seven previous occasions, also played well and won the Leonard Tankard which is awarded to the player over 50 years of age with the best gross score. Mike had rounds of 72 and 75 for 147.

The Stuart Wilson Trophy is also played for on the same day, and is awarded to the best score over 18 holes. This was won this year by Simon White with a superb net 61 from his 13 handicap.

More than 70 juniors played at Okehampton on the previous Sunday in an open meeting which was combined with an Okehampton fixture for the East Devon League.

The home team of Michael White, Steven Hill, Michael Cooper, Darren Prouse, Daniel Hudson, Jamie Weller and Den Rice won the team event and Steven Hill won the individual prize in division 2 with 41 points.

Okehampton are through to the third round of the Palairet Trophy, Devon's premier club competition.

In their second round match at Stover they overcame Downes Crediton by three matches to two, with wins for Kevin Cornwall and Barry Coaker, Adam Cook and Jonathon Mansell and John Haslem and Gareth Holt.
