TAVISTOCK Ladies' rugby team recently held their end of season meal and presented the cups and trophies.

It was a special meal as two founder members retired. Chris Staniland has played as scrum half since the team was formed in 1992. She has also had the responsibility of organising all the fixtures — fortunately she has agreed to continue in the role.

Helen Dundrow-Smith also retired. She has been an invaluable utility player, constantly changing from the forward to the backs. Both will be greatly missed.

Trophies presented were as follows: captain's player, Emily Johns; coach's player, Helen Dundrow-Smith; best newcomer, Stacy Pollard; most improved player, shared between Julia Davey and Claire Kelly; player's player Kirsty Neal. A special presentation of a trough was made to Debbie, also known as Animal!

It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by everyone.

Wednesday 7pm training has started, with several beginners attending. Anyone wishing to have a 'go' is always welcome. Tel: Terri 01822 617807 or Clare 01837 53660.
