A GARDEN at The Stannary in Mary Tavy will be opening its doors for public viewing this Sunday to help raise funds for charity.

The open garden is part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS) and is one of thousands of gardens which raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and a range of other caring charities.

The Stannary has an informal two-acre garden with views of the moor. Originally a field, the planting is naturalistic and abundant, with areas for wildlife, including ponds and a meadow. There will be plants on sale, all grown in the garden.

This is the second year that the garden will be open to the public. As well as this Sunday (May 22), the garden will be open on Sunday June 19 and Sunday August 14 for the NGS, and over the weekend of July 23 and 24 for a theatre performance by the Tavonians Theatre Company.

The garden will be open from noon to 6pm and this year there will be light lunches and teas available. The owners of The Stannary, Michael Cook and Ali Fife, used to run their home as a famous vegetarian restaurant. Visitors can enjoy lunch, tea or just a stroll around the garden.

Entrance is £3.50 and children can enter for free. For more information about the Stannary Garden visit http://www.stannary.co.uk">www.stannary.co.uk
