SPORTING twins Sarah and Laura Gomersall are celebrating success following great performances at the Youth Modern Pentathlon European Championships, held in Portugal last week.
The twins, currently ranked one and two at under-18 level nationally, were part of the Great Britain team which clinched fourth place in the competition, with Laura winning a silver medal in the relay event.
?It seems like all the effort put in is worthwhile!? said a delighted Laura.
Both girls produced personal bests in the fencing, Sarah finishing third out of 42 and Laura finishing fourth out of 42, which helped Great Britain secure top place in this phase of the competition.
The girls said they were particularly pleased with their performance in the fencing, which was usually dominated by East European countries.
Individually, Laura was placed in 16th place, Sarah in 26th.
But there will be no time to rest on their laurels ? the twins have a busy summer ahead of them.
They are due to compete in the National Triathlon Championships in May, which involves shooting, swimming and running. They are also entered in the National Pentathlon Championships in July, the National Tetrathlon Championships, a Pony Club event in August and both girls hope to be selected for the Youth A World Championships being held in Bulgaria in September.
Training, combined with A-level studies and driving lessons, will be keeping Laura and Sarah very busy in the coming months.
