WEST Devon schools are being invited to twin with schools in West Africa. The scheme, which has been set up by Tavistock charity Great Lakes (Africa) Mission, is offering Devon schoolchildren the opportunity to exchange penpal letters with classes of a similar age — but living very different lives in the plains of Uganda, Rwanda and Nairobi. Two schools in the area have already joined the scheme. St Rumon's Infant's School in Tavistock has been twinned for two years with The Wisdom Nest School in Nairobi, while Stoke Climsland School in Cornwall has set up a cultural exchange with the Lukuli Parents' School in Uganda. Pastor Colin Bond, who is organising the exchange from Tavistock King's Church, said it offered a fun way for schools to learn about and help another culture: 'Some schools have organised donations of old uniforms and school books. Others have got involved in fund-raising. Some are even planning exchanges between the teachers.' Fore more information contact Colin on 01822 833844.
