Keyham and Buckfastleigh v Whitchurch
ON a breezy, sunny afternoon Whitchurch made the journey to play fellow strugglers Keyham and Buckfastleigh. With skipper Chappell again winning the toss, he invited Keyham to bat on what looked a good batting wicket.
With all the bowlers bowling well, the scoring rate was pedestrian.
The bowling was well supported by the fielders, with Jonty Mills again excelling. With six catches being taken, only two were dropped, albeit the easiest ones. These proved costly as they were for the same batsman who went on to make 89, their only player to reach double figures.
Elliott, once again coming out of retirement, cleaned up their lower order, finishing with 4 for 14, and Lavis, again bowling without much luck, took 3 for 23. Keyham finished up 134 all out.
In reply, Whitchurch never looked in trouble, thanks to the excellent batting of veteran Rich Hall and Under 16 colt Ian Gray, Hall making 42 and Gray finishing on 47 not out.
With Chappell smacking 25 not out from 14 deliveries, Whitchurch reached their target of 135 for the loss of only two wickets, Whitchurch taking 20 points and Keyham 3 points.
This week Whitchurch entertain Ashburton.
