Whitchurch Wayfarers 1st v
Exeter South
Whitchurch won the toss and inserted Exeter into bat. An early breakthrough by Lavis set the tone, although a dogged stand between the captain and number 3 took the total well over the century. When this partnership was broken by debutant 15-year-old Ashley Woodrow, there was not much resistance. They lost the last six wickets for as many runs. Lavis finished off with 4-42.
After the break, Mansfield and Credicott made a great start. Credicott hit 40 before being caught, Mansfield carried on to reach 65.
Their departures brought Chris Clapham and another 15-year-old, Ian Clapham, to the middle. Big hitting by Clapham got him to 39 not out, While Gray reached a fine 15 not out on his debut.
Exeter South 205 all out. Whitchurch 209-2.
On Sunday against Ivybridge, rain reduced the game to 43 overs a side. Ivybridge put bat to ball with 15 overs to go and rattled up 197-6. Steve Bray recorded 4-49, and veteran Dean Elliott 1-78.
The reply saw Martin Credicott go in the first over. Clapham batted well before hitting one straight at mid-wicket, scoring 34.
A couple more wickets put Whitchurch behind the asking rate. A late flurry between Newton and John Jackson, the latter 40 not out, enabled Wayfarers to post a creditable 159-7.
The weekend brought 28 out of 40 points. This week away to Newton St Cyres.
