THE official grand 'opening' of Meldon Viaduct is due to take place next Saturday, July 6 — a day packed with activity including a special visit from popular BBC presenter Adam Hart-Davies.

Mr Hart-Davies, who currently presents Tomorrow's World, will officially open the viaduct at noon. He is a particularly appropriate person to perform the ceremony, being a keen cyclist himself, pedalling to all the destinations featured on his series, Local Heroes.

The fun day will include guided walks, cycle rides, tours of the nearby quarry and a performance by Okehampton Town Band.

There will also be a 'Dr Bike' surgery to make sure cyclists' bikes are in good and safe working order and where bike-handling skills can be discussed.

A free shuttle bus service to the viaduct using a classic 1950s coach will operate between Okehampton, Sourton Down and Sourton Village Hall. Visitors can also travel direct from Okehampton Station on the Dartmoor Pony train or make a circular route using both coach and train.
