THE clock is being turned back at Buckland Abbey near Yelverton this weekend, when the Elizabethan period is brought to life through music and dance.

Demonstrations of 16th century dancing will be taking place in the Great Barn and madrigals will be performed by Choro Baroque. For the younger visitors there will be music workshops run by Mock Hobby Horse.

During the weekend of October 12 and 13, the spotlight will fall on the domestic side of life during Elizabethan times, when visitors can find out about foods and see the sort of preparations which would have taken place for a visit by Queen Elizabeth I.

Children will be able to try on costumes during both weekends and storytellers will be telling tales on Sundays.

Helen Joy Harris, local historian and author of Drake of Tavistock, will be giving a free talk on Drake on October 12 ? spaces are limited so booking is essential on 01822 853607.

The Elizabethan weekends are free and run from 10.30am until 5pm.
