MUSIC will resonate from Tavistock's parish church this weekend, as local musicians take part in 'Tavi Olympic Tune-up' as part of the BBC's Sound of the South West event.

The Tavi Tune Up will see amateur musicians and choristers from ages eight to 80 provide a feast of bell-ringing, music, singing and worship from dawn to dusk at St Eustachius' Church on Sunday March 4, to raise money to benefit local community organisations.

Sandwiched between the 'Choral Eucharist' at 9.45am and the Ecumenical Choral Evensong, featuring the Salvation Army Band at 6pm, the Tavi Olympic Tune-up starts at 1.30pm with 45 youngsters from the Tavistock Music Academy, followed by the exciting rhythmic drum beats of Bere Alston Primary School's Drumattik.

Audiences will then be entertained by performances from Vocal Harem and Sultans of Sing and Clarinet Caboodle, with the finale of big band music to Herald the Torch from the Tamar Valley's Rubber Band.

The Tune-Up joins many other events across the South West for the Sound of the South West — a day-long concert organised by the BBC Concert Orchestra as part of Music Nation, a countdown event for the London 2012 Festival.

The Tavistock event has been organised by Activistock — a Devon Community foundation to help smaller charities and organisations.

Admission to the Tavi Olympic Tune-Up is by donation on the door of £3 for adults and £1 for children.
