ONE fire appliance from Tavistock, one fire appliance from Yelverton and the Rapid Intervention Unit from Tavistock were sent to a report of a tumble dryer on fire at a property in Monksmead, Tavistock on Saturday (December 19) at 1.41am.

On arrival crews confirmed a small fire involving a tumble dryer in a domestic property.

They used two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel, a thermal image camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan to deal with the incident.

Yelverton Fire Station said: ‘We are not sure how the fire started but as a rule of thumb don’t leave dish washers, washing machines, tumble dryers etc running when you go to bed or leave the house. Best practise is to turn appliances that you are not using off at the switch on the wall.
