CHILDREN'S Hospice South West (CHSW) is urging runners in the Okehampton area to think about nominating them if they are entering this year's Plymouth Half Marathon on Sunday, April 19.
When you register online at http://www.plymouthhalfmarathon.com">www.plymouthhalfmarathon.com there is the option to choose to run for CHSW, which is the local charity partner for the run this year, or if you have already signed up then simply email [email protected]">[email protected] and the fundraising team from CHSW will send you a fundraising pack and CHSW running vest.
On the day you will be welcomed to the CHSW runners marquee and also cheered on along the route by CHSW staff and volunteers. CHSW is inviting everyone to be a part of the CHSW team.
Last year Claire Kilbey and Nikki Isbell, both members of the care team at CHSW's Little Harbour hospice, took part in the Plymouth Half Marathon and raised money for the charity that they are so involved with on a day-to-day basis.
Following the race, Nikki said: 'I found the Plymouth Half Marathon the most emotionally and challenging experience I have personally undertaken. I found the support at mile seven from the CHSW team a reminder of what I was raising sponsorship for.
'I was lucky enough to have my whole family support me through my training and on the day, which has shown me what a difference this support network can make to a person through something they find a challenge.'
CHSW provides a support network to families whose children have been diagnosed with life limiting or life threatening illness.
Families can visit one of CHSW's three hospices in the South West and take some time out to recharge their batteries, enjoy making memories as a family, all whilst receiving expert medical care and support around the clock.
Claire and Nikki directly see where the money raised at this type of event goes every day when they go to work, but if you are interested to see how and where your sponsorship money will help then why not call Little Harbour on 01726 871800 and book onto one of their monthly tour days.
Entries for the Plymouth Half Marathon close on Monday, March 23.
