Tavistock Peace Action Group will be holding a talk on the effects of Donald Trump’s wall next week (February 8) as a migrant crisis continues to plague Europe.
The talk will be hosted by Dr Martin Mowforth at the United Reformed Church at 7.30pm, who will examine the current situation of many different nationalities which are attempting to enter the United States of America through its southern border with Mexico.
Donald Trump attempted to solve the migrant problem with a wall as a physical barrier and Dr Mowforth will discuss this structure and its effectiveness, along with other policy options available to President Biden and the impact of the coronavirus.
The talk will be followed by a general discussion of the issue.
Over the last five years, many migrant groups have been made up of people from the northern triangle of Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras) but within the past two years have been joined by sizeable numbers of Haitians and even groups from the African continent who have made their way northwards from Argentina and Brazil.
There are common features of this wave of immigration in the American continent with the wave of immigration currently experieced at the southern border of Europe.
Dr Mowforth is an associate lecturer at the Plymouth Business School and the author of several books on the topic. He has 33 years-worth of experience working in Central America.
The event is free and open to everyone but masks are required.
The Tavistock Peace Action Group was established approximately 40 years ago and aims to promote peace and nuclear disarmament.
