MORE than 15 trophies were awarded to the most outstanding players of the year at Tavistock College Rugby Club's annual presentation evening last Thursday.
Reports were given by the club's five team coaches and the players and college staff were praised for their efforts by the guest of the evening, ex-Tavistock College RFC club captain Tom Hurdwell, who now plays for Exeter Chiefs.
Player of the year for the youngest team, the Under 12s, was Jack Hodge, with the Steve Whittington trophy for clubman of the year going to Marcus Sim.
Tom Ewings was named player of the year for the Under 13s team, with Tom Friend being presented with the Tom Snater trophy for clubman of the year.
The Under 14s player of the year was Darren Guppy, and the Paul Williams trophy for clubman of the year went to Ashley Woodrow.
William Brown was named player of the year for the Under 15s team, while Jack Denges was presented with the Keith Prosser trophy for clubman of the year.
Under 16s player of the year was Robbie Barwick.
For the First XV team, Jude Rotton was the scorer of most tries, Sam Smerdon scorer of most points and most improved player, forward of the year was Iain Johnston, player of the year was James Radford, trainer of the year was Paul Dunston, Harry Lowe was most promising newcomer, Colin Smerdon was the tackler of the year and team captain Ben Sutton was the clubman of the year.
Ben was also presented with the chair's tankard as the outgoing club captain.
