Tavistock AFC 1
Plymouth Parkway 0
THE Lambs first taste of Friday night football at Langsford Park proved to be a success, with a reasonable attendance, when they hosted Plymouth Parkway.
The Parkway side contained five players who played for the Lambs last season.
The game proved to be entertaining, with both teams playing some very attractive football.
It was the home team that were fastest out of the blocks and took the game to the visitors, creating two scoring opportunities in the opening quarter.
In the sixth minute Pethick and Ofori combined well down the left flank, only for Dan Pethick to see his shot across Ben Elphik's goal go agonisingly wide of the upright. A great run by Sam Davey saw his superb cross headed wide by Pethick. Another flowing move involved Dave Hallett and Jimmy Alexander, who found Davey on the right — his deep cross found Kojo Ofori on the angle of the penalty area but his first time volley sailed well wide of the target.
Parkway were relying on the counter attack and Doel and Kinsman combined well with the later shooting well over Meeds goal.
The Lambs took a deserved lead in the 21st minute, when after another fine move resulted in a corner on the left. Elphick in the visitors goal was impeded by his own defenders, and completely missed Jimmy Alexander's in swinging corner kick which flew into the top corner. After this Parkway came more into the game, and Lee Doel shot wide of Andy Meeds' goal.
The Lambs almost doubled their lead when a Sam Davey saw his fierce shot come back off the inside of the post. As the interval arrived Parkway nearly equalised when a shot from Lee Doel came back of the cross bar and bounce to safety.
Parkway came out in the second half determined to try and get an early equaliser and they tested the home defence resilience. With Robbie Pethick, John James and Mike Arscott on top their game they restricted the visitors to long range efforts. It was therefore the home side that looked the more likely, to increase their lead.
It was not until the 89th minute that Andy Meeds was really called into action to save a free kick from Shane Krac to secure all three points.
Everyone played their part in a great team performance with Dave Hallett and Jimmy Alexander outstanding on the night.
