YOUNG badminton players from Bere Alston, Tavistock, Horrabridge and Callington triumphed at the fifth annual Caradon Open Badminton Tournament.
More than a hundred players competed in the tournament, which was held at Callington Sports Centre. Nicki Richards, Caradon's assistant recreation development officer, said this year's tournament boasted a high standard and included a number of county players.
'The titles for the singles and doubles champions were hotly contested, with the U18 girls' matches being particularly close run,' she said.
Susie Povey from Bere Alston won the U18 girls' singles and the U18 girls' doubles with partner Frances Ward from Bere Ferrers. Runners-up in the doubles were Elizabeth Rae and Tamsin Woodroffe, also from Bere Alston. In the U18 boys' doubles David Harrington and Michael Faithorn from Tavistock took the trophy.
In the U15 girls' singles Hannah Pitts from Bere Alston was runner-up, and was runner-up in the doubles with Rebecca Ward from Bere Ferrers.
Bere Ferrers player Becky Ward won the U13 girls' singles, together with the doubles with a partner teamed up with on the day from Truro.
Abi Maunder from Horrabridge won the U11 girls' singles, with runner-up Anna Pascoe from Callington. Abi also won the doubles with fellow Horrabridge resident Amber Marshall.
