Carlsberg South Western League Falmouth Town 6 Tavistock 1 THE Lambs have played eight games in the last month, suspensions and injuries have taken their toll and all they have to show for it is five points out of a possible 24. Drafted in were Paul Cowling and Steve Wickett to bolster a depleted Lambs squad. The Town were out to maintain the second spot in the league that they have slowly but surely gained as the season has progressed. The warning signs were there for the Lambs in the opening stages. Jake Hartigan and Mike Body both went close before the home side opened their account with just 15 minutes gone, when the Lambs failed to clear a corner for it to be returned in for Tom Chambers to head home from close range. Nick Campbell shot over and Andy Meeds tipped a Hartigan effort over his bar before Falmouth increased their lead on the half hour. A free kick for Tavistock taken by Mike Arscott was returned into the Lambs? half to allow Tom Sundercombe time and space to lash a shot from fully thirty yards past Meeds. The Lambs responded immediately with Shane Krac?s through ball splitting the home defence for Cowling to chip keeper Gary Penhaligan from the edge of the area. They almost got back on level terms as the half ended but Penhaligan palmed away a Gary Williams effort and Krac?s rebound went just wide. A passage of passing allowed Will Stringer to get a shot away that also went wide. The Lambs were undone on the hour with two goals in a minute that put the game out of reach for them. Body got away down the right and sent in a fierce drive from the edge of the area and moments later Lee Whetters got a foot to the ball to send it over Meeds. Penhaligan palmed away a Krac effort before the home side got their 5th with 20 minutes remaining. The rout was completed with a quarter of an hour left when substitute Ashley Bradshaw completed the scoring for what can only be described as a humiliating defeat. After such a promising start to the season with good Cup runs in the F A Vase and Devon Premier Cup it will now see them finish around 9th or 10th in the League. Forthcoming fixtures: The Plymouth and West Devon side have completed their league games and by the time this report goes to print the Carlsberg side will have completed their games. All that remains is the Bedford and Bedford Chairman?s Cup games to be sorted. Carlsberg South Western League Porthleven 0 Tavistock 1 THE second trip down to the far west of Cornwall in the space of five days proved to be a more fruitful one as the Lambs returned to West Devon with all three points in a hard earned victory. Mark Conday returned after missing the mid week match with Jared Kelly also into the starting line up and Will Stringer picked up the Captain?s arm band after Nigel Pugh failed a late fitness test. The Lambs started a bit jittery in defence but they almost went ahead after 10 minutes. A James Steer corner was flicked on by Stringer for Conday to get his head to it only to see keeper Sid Taylor tip the ball over the bar from close range. John Morris then put one over the bar before the Lambs almost gifted the home side an equaliser on 20 minutes when a defensive mistake allowed Shane Richards a shot on goal but it went straight to Andy Meeds. Shane Krac then put a chance over from a low cross Steer corner with Duane Britten shooting straight at Meeds when well placed. Richards missed another chance and Krac was just off target with two more efforts before the Lambs went into the lead during added time in the first half. A Stringer free kick found Sean Cann on the edge of the area to flick on for Conday to chest it down and with the home defence appealing for hand ball Conday struck it low and hard into the bottom corner for a well earned half time lead. The ?Fishermen? almost got back on level terms with just three minutes on the clock of the second half. Kevin Lawrence got away down the right with the Lambs defence appealing for offside to cross in low for Britten to get his foot to it only to pass it the wrong side of the post. It would have been a controversial leveller had it gone in. Both sides continued to look for a goal. In the case of the Lambs for a two goal cushion and the home side to get back on level terms. But neither side could come up with one. With the Lambs having a little bit of luck in maintaining their one goal lead right to the end for a welcome three points that takes them over the 50 point mark for the season. This Saturday will see The Robin Fenner Memorial Cup match being played between the Chairman?s (Derek Pethick) and the Carlsberg Managers? (Craig Smith and Ian Southcott) sides with a 11-45am kick off. Former player and manager Alan Johns will referee the match. The day starts with pre-match refreshments at 11am. The day will also incorporate a Tavistock players? reunion. Among those who will be attending are Cyril Tucker, Len Walsh, Mike Symons, Malcolm Pender and Dave Williams to name but a few. Any former players who have missed the invite are more than welcome to attend. After the match the F A Cup Final between Liverpool and West Ham (ko 3pm) will be on the large screen in the Red and Black Club and again everyone is invited.
