A SECOND journey through the work of photographer Jim Thorington's extensive collection of photographs is being staged in Tavistock on November 12.

Following the success of the afternoon presentation during the town's carnival week on Jim's work by local historian Kevin Dickens, Kevin is returning to the Bedford Hotel on Wednesday, November 12.

Jim Thorington worked as a press photographer in and around the Tavistock area from the mid 1960s to the late 90s, and over that period he amassed a huge collection of prints and negatives which, on his death in 2002, were generously handed over by his widow Shirley into the care of the local history society.

The photographs are now housed in Court Gate where a team of volunteers has, so far, scanned and catalogued more than 70,000 images.

Kevin has chosen a small selection of his favourite photographs featuring Tavistock and its changes over the last 40 years.

The evening is being staged by the Lions Club of Tavistock in conjunction with the Bedford Hotel and the presentation will take place in the Portrait Room of the hotel starting at 7.30pm.

Entrance will cost £5 per head and proceeds will go to Tavistock's Youth Café.

There will be limited seating so reserving a place through the reception of the hotel is advised to avoid disappointment.
