THREE men from West Devon are about to embark on a gruelling 'marathon and half' run each day for seven days, around the Cornish coastline. Nigel Jenkins, 44, Sam Waddy and Adam Forrest, who are in their 30s, will pound the route from Welcome Point in North Cornwall to Mount Edgcumbe, to raise money to rehabilitate members of the Armed Forces, who have been wounded in service of their country. They start their run on June 7 and hope to compete the 258-mile trek within ten days. They will be running between seven and eight hours per day. Nigel, who lives in Clearbrook, is a former gunner with the Plymouth-based 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery and is now a tree surgeon; Adam Haytor, from Haytor, is a former major in the Royal Medical Army Corps, who now works at Derriford Hospital with fellow surgeon Sam Waddy. They are aiming to raise more than £1,000 for the national Help For Heroes charity. Adam said: 'I've known a few guys who were serving in Afghanistan last year with 29 Commando who need that medical back-up, so its a very deserving charity. 'Its going to be tough and we are looking to do it in seven days at an average of 38 miles. 'Local campsites will be providing accomm-odation and we will be collecting at local pubs along the way. 'We have back-up support to provide a canoe so that we can paddle across the rivers such as the Camel, Fal, and Fowey, so we do not have to depend on motorised transport and go all the way round.' Bryn Parry, the Help for Heroes appeal chairman, said: What is H4H all about? It's about the blokes, our men and women. 'It's about Derri, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. 'It's about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. 'It's about Ben, it's about Steven and Andy and Mark, it's about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.'
