THREE members of the same family set out on their bicycles on Monday to ride from John O' Groats to Land's End, with the aim of raising £4,000 for several good causes.

John Houghton, 55, of Tavistock, and his brother Keith, 52, of Tavistock, will be supporting Children's Hospice South West, Get Out There, Help for Heroes and Macmillan Cancer Support, on the ride which they aim to complete in 12 days.

Accompanying them will be John's son Matthew, while Keith and John's brother Dave, also of Callington, will be driving the support vehicle.

Keith said: 'The inspiration for this event is my nephew, Craig Fisher, who was killed in a motorcyle accident two years ago. This ride is to do something positive in his memory.'

The team have already raised in excess of £1,000 towards their target, with additional promises taking them past the halfway mark, plus Dartmoor Cycles from Tavistock have also supported the event.  Anybody wishing to support them should visit http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/houghton-riders">www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/houghton-riders
