POLICE in West Devon are working to ensure no tricks are played on vulnerable residents this Hallowe?en. The police encourage members of the public who do not wish to be called upon to place the ?No Trick, No Treat, No Thanks? poster in the doors or windows of their homes. The idea behind the campaign is to remind Trick or Treaters that there may be vulnerable community members who could become distressed by Trick or Treating. Crime reduction officer for West Devon, PC Angie Frost, said: ?Large groups of people at the front door or in the street can alarm the older population of West Devon and those living alone. ?We are not trying to spoil the fun of Hallowe?en, but would like trick or treaters to recognise that some elderly and vulnerable members of our community might be distressed by trick or treating. ?Youngsters are out for some fun, but may not consider who might be living in the houses they are visiting. ?We suggest that if you don?t know the people living in a property then to approach with respect and consideration throughout the evening.? The police, who developed the poster, ask that if Trick or Treaters see the poster to respect the people in the house and not call at the property.
