A TAVISTOCK woman died following a serious collision between a car and a lorry on the M5 last week and police are calling for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Emergency services were called at 5.50am on Monday, January 14 to reports of a collision on the M5 near junction 29 southbound.

Kayleigh Gill, 22 from Tavistock, was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E) before being airlifted to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance. She later died on Friday, January 18 as a result of her injuries.

Three other occupants of the car were taken to the RD&E Hospital by land ambulance. They sustained minor injuries. The driver of the lorry also sustained minor injuries.

The M5 was closed for around six hours while emergency services attended the scene and reopened just before 1pm.

Anyone with information and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 82 of 14/1/19.

Family, friends and the Tavistock community have rallied around raising funds for Kayleigh after a Gofundme account was set up to help her family pay for her funeral.

The account states: ‘Kayleigh was loved and cherished by so many. Her friends and family have shown this by all the loving tributes they have written about her from loving memories and the hours of laughter shared.

’Kayleigh was the most amazing mum to her two boys, she doted on them, they were her world. Kayleigh will live on through her boys and everyone will make sure they know how much she loved them.’

The fundraising page was set up on Saturday (January 19) with the aim of raising £6,000 and by Monday afternoon it had already exceeded that amount.

Some of the tributes that were left alongside donations included: ‘So very sad to hear this tragic news. In the short time I knew you Kayleigh you were always a star, so full of life, joy and love for Dom and the boys. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends’; ‘Kayleigh was such a beautiful girl inside and out and will be missed by many’; ‘Gone far too soon. I will cherish memories shared and laughs we had through school. RIP to a lovely lady, my heart goes out to your family’ and ‘Sleep tight my sweet angel. You have taken a part of each and every one of us and we are going to miss you forever. You are so loved’.
