FOLLOWING the success of the Bere Pen 10k held earlier this year, Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) have contributed all monies made from the event to community related projects and groups.

The cash has been shared out as follows: Bere Alston Rainbows £200, to pay for a remembrance flag or banner; Tiddlywinks £100, to pay for a new slide and contribute to other equipment; Junior Life Skills £100; Bere Alston Garden Club £40, to buy a new cup for an award to encourage children to get outside and grow something of their choice; Youth to Youth a £200 contribution towards the youth club project, and Bere Alston Regeneration Project, £60 towards new kitchen equipment.

Dotty Allan, Bats chair, said: 'I would like to let all those know who took part in the Bere Pen Sport Relief mile that the total monies raised is £749.

'This is enough money to provide a young carer in the UK with one-to-one support for a whole year, to help them cope with their huge responsibilities at home and keep up at school and would like to thank everyone again who contributed to the event.'
