RICHARD Hamer, president of the Lions Club of Tavistock, switched on the Trees of Light last Thursday where every bulb on the trees has been sponsored on memory of a departed loved one.
Richard thanked everybody who has sponsored bulbs, Graham Moule of Mount Tavy Cottage for supplying the trees, the staff of Tavistock Town Council for putting up the trees and the lights and the Times for publishing the sponsorship form.
He also thanked the directors of the local funeral company Morris Bros (Tavistock) Ltd which, for the seventh year, have covered all of the administration cost meaning that all of the money raised can go to this year's nominated charities, Children's Hospice South West, St Luke's Hospice and the Mustard Tree Macmillan Centre based at Derriford Hospital.
Sponsorship so far has reached £5,200 but if people still wish to sponsor a bulb they should contact Lion Roger Lethbridge, who has organised the project on behalf of the club, on 01822 613794.
