A Himalayan Birch tree has been planted by West Devon mayor Alison Clish-Green and the Wesseling-West Devon group to mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning association between the two districts.
The tree has been planted in the grounds of the West Devon Borough Council offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock.
The group, which has a total membership in both Germany and England of around 70, was initiated in the early 1980s and members visit either Wesseling or West Devon on alternate years.
Cllr Clish-Green said: 'I am delighted to plant this birch tree in recognition of our links with Wesseling.
'I was a member of the council 25 years ago and am pleased that the bond between our areas continues.'
David Williams, chairman of Club Wesseling, said that both groups needed younger members to join them.
He said: 'We really have a wonderful time and forge lasting friendships which continue for years.'
Anyone interested in joining the group can call Mr Williams on 01822 840030.
