ON behalf of the Devon Committee for Help the Aged I would like to thank everyone who donated towards our ?Tree of Light?.

The committee arranged to put a Christmas tree in the day room of Tavistock Hospital which was donated by the B&Q Warehouse in Plymouth.

The tree was covered in lights given by Towls and decorations from Derrys. We asked local businesses to sponsor the lights and all the money raised will be spent on projects that help older people throughout Devon.

The committee would also like to thank the hospital for all their help and support and we were delighted to be able to brighten up the hospital with the tree as well as raise funds for help the Aged.

The committee of volunteers organises fundraising events throughout the year and all money raised helps older people in the county. We have given grants to many organisations such as Tavistock Area Support Services, Tavistock Care and

Repair, East Ogwell Lunch Club, the Monday Club in Paignton and the Estuary League of Friends.

If you would like to help or become a ?friend? of the committee please contact me on 01884 266635. I am the local co-ordinator and would love to hear from you.

Help the Aged

WE took delivery of a new 16-seater minibus as described in your recent article based on a press release from Help the Aged. We would like to include the following in the list of funders mentioned: The Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation.

And locally: Disabled Fellowship, The Rotary Club of Tavistock, Spring House Residential Care Home, Tavistock Physically Challenged Group, Tavistock Town Council, Mrs Mary Worth.

And Tavistock Area Support Services itself, using part of the legacy bequeathed to us by the late Mr Richard Gilbert.

On behalf of all the people that are going to benefit from this minibus we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the funders.

ON behalf of the West Devon Environmental Network, I would once again like to use your columns to thank everyone who brought Christmas trees to Leg o?Mutton for chipping on January 8.

The event was as well supported as ever with the chipping carried out this year by trainees from our Rural Skills Project which provides training and practical help to people working, or desiring to work, in the West Devon countryside.

Thanks again to Tavistock Chainsaw and Garden Machinery for the use of the chipper and to Lynher Training.

Last, but not least, the event is recycling in action and it is heartening to see the commitment of local residents to reducing waste and encouraging sustainability.
