TREES and hedgerows which may be affected by a huge new development on the outskirts of Tavistock will go under the spotlight at a meeting in the town next month. Tavistock Tree Preservation Group will be discussing the new Redrow estate, to be built next to Bishopsmead, when it meets on April 10. A spokesman for the group said: ?Local residents and councillors were shocked and angry at the destruction in February this year of trees and hedgerows at the southern gateway to Tavistock, between Bishopsmead and Anderton Lane, in preparation for the re-alignment of the A386 and construction of a roundabout at the entrance to the new estate.? The spokesman said the tree group has studied the outline application for the Redrow development, plus various other supporting documents, including a report on existing trees and hedges on the land. Members have also met West Devon planners and discussed conditions imposed by the borough regarding the new estate. The tree preservation group?s conclusions and recommendations will be reported at the meeting, which is open to all members of the public interested in preserving Tavistock?s green heritage. Other items on the agenda will include a report on the recent activities of the town?s tree wardens, and concerns for trees which may be jeopardised by the proposed developments around the Guildhall. The meeting starts at 7.30pm in Kingdon House, Tavistock ? Fairtrade refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the meeting at 9pm.
