STRONG winds forced a large branch down onto Whitchurch Road last Friday, bringing with it high voltage power cables. The incident took place at around 8pm and saw police, firefighters, SWEB and the Highways Agency attend. The branch forced the electricity cables down to around 5ft off the ground and blocked the road for about six hours. Ruth Middleton, who lives on Whitchurch Road, said the incident was 'quite surreal', as she had never experienced anything like that before. She said: 'The cables were arcing and it was all pretty scary. If you haven't experienced anything like that before it is quite scary.' Firefighters cordoned off the road until SWEB had disabled the electricity. Once the immediate danger had gone the fire crew handed over to SWEB and the Highways Agency.
