HEALTH chiefs are this month carrying out a survey to find out how well patient transport services are working in the Mid Devon Primary Care Trust area. A working group has been set up to see how the PCT?s service, which covers the Okehampton area, could be improved. Moses Warburton, lead commissioner for the transport service, said the purpose of the review was to make sure eligible patients received healthcare appointments in the most appropriate way. Mr Warburton said: ?Despite the best efforts of those involved in the planning and delivery of transport, it?s clear the current system is not living up to all that is expected of it. ?Not only are some of the people who need it most missing out, but it has failed to keep pace with developments in healthcare ? patients also tell us the current system is confusing.? The patient transport system is operated by Westcountry Ambulance Services NHS Trust, plus voluntary ambulance car drivers, charities and community groups.
