Saturday afternoon and yet another accident on the A30 and diversion of traffic through Okehampton of returning holidaymakers and locals alike.
If the stupidity of one lane in West Street had not been plain enough under normal circumstances, then this was impossible to comprehend. Traffic was nose to tail way past the turning to Bude and through Graddon Cross.
Nobody was assigned to man the traffic lights at the Fore Street crossing, so chaos reigned with the now reluctantly accepted farcical flow.
Since commencing this letter the thought has come that no provision was made for a town centre coach park, because the brains behind the so-called improvement could see such an eventuality and had the interests of us (the majority) in mind all along, in not wanting to cause still more gridlock than they have already meted out to the inhabitants.
