MAY Day is a traditional day for springtime celebrations and this coming Saturday, May 1, schoolchildren from all over the area will be coming together in the churchyard of Tavistock's Parish Church for a morning of country dancing, courtesy of Michael Brierley, the priest in charge.

The dance programme, co-ordinated by the Lions Club of Tavistock, will start at 10am and will feature children from St. Rumon's Infants School, St. Peter's Junior School, Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School, Tavistock Primary School, Harrowbarrow School and St. Andrew's Primary School from Buckland Monachorum.

In several instances, the children will be using the traditional maypole with its ribbons forming wonderful colourful patterns around the pole during the dancing.

This is the second year that the Lions have organised this celebration in conjunction with the local schools and last year, on a beautiful sunny day, it attracted a large crowd in the churchyard.

The Lions and children are keeping their fingers crossed for a fine day so that they and the spectators can enjoy a colourful and musical morning.
