A THOUSAND invitations have been issued to local businesses, urging them to make a big effort to attend next week's important meeting to regenerate Tavistock.

The town's chamber of commerce has issued the invitations to businesses in the PL19 and PL20 area to the meeting in the town hall, when consultant Graham Vallis will explain his innovative Towns Alive programme.

'If you want a thriving Tavistock, then we want you to have your say now,' the invitation states.

John Taylor, joint chair of Tavistock Forward which arranged the event, said reaction to the meeting has been 'positive'.

'The idea behind next week's meeting is to take the opportunity to examine a process which is being used in other towns around the country, where they have also recognised the need for change and closer working links,' said Mr Taylor.

'Local businesses need to work together and plan longer term for the benefit of the broader community as well as their own individual business interests.

'We cannot operate in a matchbox and ignore the person next door,' he said.

The meeting takes place at 6pm next Wednesday, March 22 — tea and coffee will be provided from 5.30pm.
