A FATHER and daughter from Tavistock raised more than £900 for Macmillan Cancer Support by holding a country music dance at the Tavy Club.

Derek Stephens and daughter Tracy Lees were delighted when around 150 people turned up on the night to dance and enjoy a dance, raffle and a buffet, kindly provided by Sally Perkins at the Tavy Club.

On the following Monday the Leaping Salmon pub in Horrabridge held a quiz and donated the proceeds to the fundraiser.

Tracy had been diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 and received support from Macmillan Cancer Support through Derriford Hospital and the Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre.

Tracy said: 'The support that I received from Macmillan was great and so we really wanted to give something back'.

Sian Harris, Macmillan's local fundraising manager, said: 'We are really grateful to Tracy and Derek for organising this fundraiser as we rely on the support of local people for 96% of our funds.

'Events like this one will help us reach more local people affected by cancer.'
