Okehampton U9s 40

Tavistock U9s 10

PLAYED in excellent conditions this was another fine game of rugby. Tavistock got into their stride immediately and scored a fine try from deep in their own half.

In the first few minutes it was all Tavistock and another excellent move saw them increase their lead. This galvanised Okehampton into action and they replied with two well worked tries by Buster Francis and Matt Johns, who had an excellent game at scrum half.

Good defensive work by Dan Curtis, Ollie Kirby and Chris Osborne led to an increase of available ball for Okehampton to begin to dominate through their forwards, particularly Thom White and Chris Courtier.

Further tries came from Matt (3), Buster and Thom White (2) as Okehampton began to tighten their grip. Excellent rugby resulted with this young side showing off their skills in running in some lovely tries.

Tavistock, now under heavy pressure, never wilted and tackled ferociously, making this a thoroughly entertaining game.

Okehampton new boy Jamie Hignett played well in his first game. Team work is the key, and it was an excellent all round effort by every member that led to another fine victory.

WHAT can one write about this local derby result, specially as it is likely to be read by both teams, unlike most of the season?s reports?

Tavistock played like a side with something to prove and they did, convincingly. The whole squad performed above themselves.

The forwards, Mark Friend, Elliott Northmore and Elliot Hoyte, directed by captain Joe Hair, controlled the game up front, winning all the set pieces.

Scrum half Rhys Dunford provided the link to the backs with quick ball and excellent darting runs of his own.

The regular solid centre of Cameron Hogg was joined by the new signings of George Howard and Barnaby Frost, whose tackling and running brought a different dimension to the line.

Wingers Joshua Leeson and Nathan Alford were in the thick of the action most of the time with Leeson playing out of his skin.

The impenetrable Tavistock defence was underpinned yet again by the tackling of Philip Snell at full back when he was not joining the attack to devastating effect.

The individual tallies were Joshua Leeson and Philip Snell each with four tries, Mark Friend, Barnaby Frost and Rhys Dunford with one apiece.

Training this Sunday at 10am.

North Okes U11s 30

Tavistock U11s 0

IT was the fist game back for the young North Okes team after the Christmas break and two games cancelled due to frost.

From the word go North Okes took the game to Tavistock with determined forward play from Will Hawkins, Merrick Kirby, Andrew Fishleigh, Tom Dean and James Speak giving the visitors little time to settle on the ball.

It was from one of these forward moves that Kirby broke through the Tavistock defence to score North Okes? first try.

Next came a bit of quick thinking by outside half Andrew North, who took a quick penalty on the halfway line and ran it all the way in for their second try.

After the break Kirby got his second try after good interplay between Luke Miller and Cameron Rickerby left him with a clear run down the line.

With a few positional changes in the threequarters Rickerby was moved into the second centre position and with determined running also scored North Okes? third try.

North also scored a second after a powerful run through the Tavistock defence. North Okes? final try came from a mistake from the opposition allowing Darcy Heard to pick up the loose ball and jink his way to within a few metres of the line before passing to Sam Robertson who crashed over to score her second try of the season.

Chris Reynolds came on just after half-time for his first game and performed well.

THIS game was always going to be a battle between two big sets of forwards.

Okehampton got off to a flying start when Tavistock kicked off and Okehampton second row Mason Whittle caught the ball and ran up the wing, breaking three tackles to score in the corner.

This gave the young Okes confidence to take on the Tavistock forwards, with Robert Long and Tom McGratton running hard at the opposition, well supported by Scott Simpson and Stuart Bennie. From a maul just inside the Okehampton half, Mason again broke free and had a strong run to score. Both converted by Tom Brown.

Tavistock managed to pull one try back with their big prop-forward doing well to ground the ball with several

Okehampton players trying to keep him up.

The second half was a forward battle, Okehampton?s better tackling giving them a slight advantage.

Okehampton backs, Will Heard, Jake Chisholm. David Binns, James Heard, Richard Friend, Alex Wooldridge and Michael Aylen, had little ball to run with but were quick to shut down any Tavistock attacks.

Tavistock managed to score another try just before the final whistle with a long kick from deep in their own half, Okehampton fumbling the ball allowing a Tavistock player to dive in and score.

Okehampton U15s 10

Totnes U15s 10

UNDER wet and blustery conditions Okehampton struggled to find form. With several clearances to touch Totnes broke the tackles to open the score in the first ten minutes.

Okehampton began to find their pace with Simon Cox breaking through the lineout to have his tries disallowed. Okehampton kept Totnes in their half for the next ten minutes before clearing for Totnes to score in the corner, which made it 10-0.

Okehampton fought back and received a penalty which Richard Bolt converted on the half-time whistle.

The second half was a heavily fought battle and evenly matched. Some good runs from Johnny Hutchins and fine work from the forwards put Okehampton in the striking position to let second row Sam Turner score, converted by Richard Bolt to level the score.

The next ten minutes saw Okehampton camped in Totnes?s 22.

This week a cup match against Plymstock, kick-off 11am at home.
