THE Inner Wheel Club of Tavistock hosted the annual district rally last week ? for the first time in the town?s history. More than 100 women from 23 clubs from the district came to celebrate the event, which started with a special service at St Eustachius Church, conducted by the Rev Michael Brierley, followed by a lunch in the town hall. The rally is usually held in a town chosen by the district chairman ? usually her home town. As Grenofen resident Denise Bacon is chairman from July 2007 to June 2008, she chose Tavistock. This is a special annual event for the Inner Wheel, an organisation primarily made up of wives, partners and relatives of members of the Rotary Club. The national president of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland, Audrey Pollard, was special guest for the day, as was the district chairman, Margaret Kempton, Rotary district governor Kevin Farleigh, and Tavistock Rotary president Anthony Whitehead.
