Tavistock U16s 12

Newton Abbot U16s 15

A RESHUFFLED Tavistock side started the match impressively.

Focused in defence, and conscious of a well organised opposition, Tavistock got into their stride early and following a good period of expansive rugby, with Jez Cramoysan and Richie Coker linking well in the centre, the forwards started to dominate and opened the scoring with some efficient pick and drive, allowing Pete Meachin to drive over for his first try since returning from injury.

Newton Abbot quickly demonstrated their capability and soon levelled the score with some impressive forward play.

Following the successful conversion and a further try, Tavistock went in at half time trailing by ten points.  However, the home side started the second half much the brighter and were winning the ball all over the pitch with each player totally commited in the tackle.

Tavistock thought they scored from the start with a well worked try, but Richie Coker was deemed as not having the ball under control as it was put down.  Unaffected by this decision, Coker went on a dazzling run to claim a try under the posts, successfully converted by Ed Longden.  With a clear game plan established, Tavistock pushed for a winning try but despite an excellent all round perfomance, the winning scored eluded them, as they lost 12-15.

There were many outstanding performances, with Harry Birt, Nathan Sutton, Jez Cramoysan, Richie Coker, Sam Eaton, Pete Meachin and Billy Boulton all beginning to demonstrate significant capability, the home player of the match was awarded to Ed Ames for a gutsy and tenacious display at scrum half.
