DJM U15 Defiance
Tavistock Town U15s 2
Tregorrick Park U15s 1
TAVISTOCK Town clinched the League title with a hard fought victory over Tregorrick Park (St. Austell). Tavistock always looked the more threatening though with Hicks causing the visitors problems with his pace and strong runs with good support from Hancock and Davidson.
Tregorrick had periods of possession but never got behind the Town defence of Blatchford, Rosser-Lewis, Northmore and Panter, so Holland in goal was rarely troubled.
Tavistock took the lead on 15 minutes when good work by Hicks allowed Phelan the chance to force home from close range. With Tavistock in the ascendancy and Lane and Quick working well in midfield, they started to force the game and almost doubled the lead when Hicks hit the bar. Further chances were created and Hicks again hit the bar but it was not until five minutes before half time that Tavistock extended their lead when Northmore finished well from close range.
In the second half Tregorrick started to commit more players forward. A lack of concentration in the Town defence allowed space on the left and the strike went across Holland into the corner. It continued to be tight, although Tavistock continued to look threatening in attack. Tregorrick's only other chance came from a free kick which Holland did well to push over the bar.
In the dying minutes Hicks had a chance to make the game safe but a clearance off the line denied the goal. At the final whistle the players celebrated their league win. Title winning squad: Northmore (c), Holland, Blatchford, McClung, Rosser-Lewis, Hosking, Panter, Davidson, Lane, Quick, Hancock, Hall, Phelan and Hicks.
