Tavistock U12s 45

Liskeard U12s 5

TAVISTOCK's backs and forwards took advantage of the greater possession of the ball to display some good passages of play with a number of fluent moves leading to scores throughout the game.

The home side took the lead early in the encounter through strong forward play and a powerful burst from Charlie Carter who continued his try scoring run in recent games.

A second try followed from Charlie Charlton who picked up a loose ball from a ruck to cross from close range. Will Slater then got on the score sheet, finishing off a great driving maul from the pack.

Despite some good ball from set pieces, Liskeard found it difficult to break a steadfast home defence. From a Tavistock counter attack Tom Jackman was on hand to cross the line for a fourth try for Tavistock with the final move of the first half, making the score 28-0 at half time.

The second half started in similar fashion with Tavistock making much better use of their share of the ball than the visitors — displaying some fine link up play between forwards and backs. However, it was a great solo effort for the next score as Adam Williams crossed the line after a dazzling run from inside his own half.

Charlie Charlton then took advantage of some strong forward play to rip the ball free from a maul and cross for his second try. Liskeard eventually managed to get off the mark with a breakaway try from deep in their own half, but it was Tavistock again that finished off the scoring through a Zak Brinkhurst try.

This was another fine display from the Tavistock side.

THIS was a close game played in good spirit by both teams. Early on Liskeard's scrum was dominant in their possession but Tavistock held out on the line in the closing stages of the first half.

Tavistock's Angus and Alex switched their positions from hooker to prop respectively and the scrum appeared to be stronger and hook more effectively. There were good performances from Callum,  Angus and Alex. Alex almost scored a breakaway try but  the referee spotted a forward pass. Both teams then scored two converted tries before the change over.

Will  returned for Tavistock to prove the strike force of old with some fine running , jinking and kicking. The tackle of the game for Tavistock  was a try saving effort from Charlie.

Tavistock started the new year with a bang, running in 13 tries. The home team started the match with the downhill advantage, which they wasted no time in using, with scrum half George running in the first of his seven tries within moments of the whistle being blown.  The Liskeard defence could do little to stop the nippy scrum half.  Two well run tries from Laurence, playing for the first time at fly half, saw the first third end five tries to nil.

Despite having to play uphill in the second third, Tavistock showed no sign of slowing down.  George, now playing in the centre, ran in another four tries.

Two more tries for Tavistock followed — a lovely evasive run by winger Fred and another from forward Chris, who gathered from a maul and drove for the line.

In the final third, he visitors were unable to break past the five-metre mark. Centre Dominic  and  forward Callum both ran in well deserved tries to end the match.

OKEHAMPTON showed no signs of rustiness or over indulgence over the festive period as they showed top form to inflict this impressive defeat over their local rivals. The Oke boys played some fine rugby to dominate virtually the whole match and scored seven tries in total.

Gregory Daniel scored a hat-trick, as did the ever improving Olly Ardon. The other try went to Leon Horne as the Okes began 2009 in some style.

In the second game of this three way Sunday, Oke again provided fine entertainment for the freezing fans as they showed the previous victory was no flash in the pan. Some stout defence was the foundation to build on as they showed plenty of pace and tenacity to run in eight more tries.

The scores came thick and fast through Leon Horne (3), Corey Holliday, Olly Ardon, Gregory Daniel and a try apiece for two guest players from hosts Tavistock.

This week sees the visit of more local rivals in the shape of Crediton.

THE second game carried on the trend of Tavistock breaking down Liskeard attacks and some great breakaway tries from turnover balls being scored by Louis Peake (4). Further tries from new boy Harry Richardson (3) sealed the day for Tavistock.

Again this was a great all round performance from the Tavistock youngsters with an increasing defensive strength.
