Tavistock RFC U12 0 Crediton RFC U12 35 MISSING several key players and in heavy going and wet conditions at Sandy Park on Sunday a lacklustre Tavistock performance allowed Crediton to dominate the game after an initial 10 minute thrust. The Crediton team played strongly with fast work on the ground and effective use of its centres, winning most of the line outs. The Tavistock inherent weaknesses of failing to ruck quickly over the loose ball and generally make attacking tackles was exploited by Crediton to great advantage leading to a try score of five, all of which were successfully converted. Not withstanding the overall performance Tavistock's Jack Crozier was notable, putting in several big tackles to halt Crediton progress in the second half Dominic Dewson was outstanding in leading the Tavistock pack and driving forward with able support from Kristian Sprangle and Martin Budden, all of whom kept up the pressure until the final whistle. Despite even results from the set scrum, Crediton played a 'forwards game' obtaining the majority of the ball and ensuring that most of the play took place in the Tavistock half. The home centres and backs suffered from a lack of cohesion with ball handling and missed several opportunities of kicking clear of their own 22. Jez Massy Birch at full back delivered some tenacious runs into the Crediton pack and successfully made ground. The Tavistock 'lads' learned important lessons in difficult match conditions against a strong opposition. Tavistock U11s 35 Crediton U11s 19 TAVISTOCK were out to avenge the away leg of this fixture which they lost in the final second. The game started with neither side making inroads through the opposing defence. Crediton were winning the loose ball and from a resulting ruck their centre burst through to give them the lead. Led by scrum half Aaron Dobie, Tavistock picked up their tackling and loose play. Alex Boswell, James Ware, James Best and Dan Dawes started to dominate possession at first in the lineout and then in the scrummage with a good debut from Dan Parr at front row providing a platform for the backs. Winger Nick Bennett was twice stopped just short of the Crediton line and with Darcy Bourton and Callum and Finlay Ross put in some good tackles out wide. After good pressure, Glen Fuller crashed over from a penalty and shortly after the ball was worked wide again with quick hands for Pete Hutchins on the wing to score his debut try. In the second half Josh Birch combined well with Fuller. This undid the Crediton defence with the fast running and support play being too much for them. Fuller's final tally was three tries. Crediton pulled one back and the last ten minutes were tense with Tavistock holding the tenacious visitors at bay with good tactical direction from Finlay Ross at full back. The tension was eased when the forwards won a scrum deep in Crediton territory and fly half Matt Earp side-stepped the defence to finish the game off . Man of the match: Glen Fuller.
